The team at the JMU Press and Public Relations Office will be happy to show you how to strike the right balance between expertise and popularisation and to help you ensure that you deliver your message at the right time and through the right medium.

Support from our Editorial Team

We can help you get publicity for your research! We write press releases, help you respond to requests from the media and provide advice on communication strategies. In addition, we can put you in touch with service providers for graphic design, photography, translation etc.

Media Skills Training

We offer short coaching sessions that will equip you with the necessary skills to present yourself and your work in the best light in the media! And we can help you craft your research story and your central message. In addition, we will provide hands-on tips that will help you navigate interviews confidently and professionally. We will also be happy to take the time to provide more specific advice or accompany you to interviews.

Hands-on tips for communicating with the media

We have a booklet available that provides hands-on tips for getting started on better science communication and tells you everything you need to know about various communication formats. Whether you are new to science communication or looking to further enhance your SciComm skills, you will find this booklet to be a valuable resource.

New series of training courses on science communication

Learn how to communicate your research to people in a captivating and easy-to-understand manner: In 2024, we will be offering two courses, one of which has been designed specifically for early-career researchers.

From 2025 onwards, there will be four courses each year. All courses in the series will be taught by renowned communication professionals.

Scicomm-Support – help for researchers

Scicomm-Support provides free help and personalised advice to researchers who are being attacked for public statements they have made.

The Professorium networking event for researchers

The Professorium is a unique and exclusive event that gives JMU professors the opportunity to network across Faculties and Institutes in an informal setting, to exchange exciting ideas and to set up new research collaborations. Use this forum to connect with your colleagues!
