Prof. Dr. Mauro Tulli, Italy

1. Could you please describe your academic/ professional career in a few words?

I obtained my degree in Greek Literature in July 1981 and my Diploma in Classical Philology at Rome University Sapienza in July 1983. From 1983 to 1986, disciple of the Ph.D Course in Classical Philology at the University of Florence, in September 1987, I disputed my dissertation. From 1992 to 1995, I won the Humboldt-Stiftung Scholarship at the University of Cologne and at the University of Würzburg. From 1998 to 2006, Associate Professor of Greek Grammar and from 2006, Full Professor of Greek Literature at the University of Pisa. From 2009 to 2012 I served as the President of the “Corso di Laurea in Lettere”, from 2012 to 2016 as the Director of the Department "Filologia Letteratura e Linguistica", as well as a Member of the Academic Senate, at the University of Pisa. I am currently President of the PhD Programme “Scienze dell’Antichità e Archeologia”.

2. What do you find most fascinating about your home country?

It is very difficult to describe the most fascinating aspects of Italy in a few words: literature, art, freedom, creativity, and landscape.

3. Do you have any experience regarding a scientific or economic exchange between your home country and countries of the European Union?

In 1989 a co-founder of the “International Plato Society” (IPS), from 2002 to 2007 the Coordinator of the Editorial Board, from 2007 to 2010 a member of the Executive Board, from 2010 to 2013 its President and consequently the organizer of the International Conference at the University of Pisa in July 2013, of the “International Plato Society” (IPS). I am  currently a member of the Advisory Board.

From 1984 to date, I have held lectures at Aix-en-Provence, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Paris, and Vilnius. I contributed to several congresses in Würzburg (on Epicureanism), in Bamberg (on the Corpus of Plato), in Würzburg (on Biography in Peripatos), in Tübingen (on Plato as a Painter), in Nice (on the Mimesis in the Archaic and Classical Literature), in Athens (for the FISP), and at the III (Bristol 1992), at the IV (Granada 1995), at the VII (Würzburg 2004) at the VIII (Dublin 2007) International Plato Society Symposium.

4. What do you think about the importance of Alumni in terms of the cultural, academic and economic exchange?

Alumni is the best frame to develop research programs and to connect academic activities in Europe with the cultural roots of the personal curriculum.
