Step 2: Deciding on a funding programme

Once you have found an internship position, you may want to consider funding for your internship. The main scholarship programmes for internships abroad are Erasmus+ and DAAD short-term scholarships.

You can find the funding conditions for each programme here:

  •  Erasmus internships (internships from 60 days to 12 months within the Erasmus area; also possible after graduation):
  • DAAD Short Scholarships (internships between 40 days and 3 months in selected institutions)
  • PROMOS (Internships between 1 and 6 months that cannot be funded by other DAAD programmes (e.g. outside the Erasmus area)
  • Further funding opportunities

Be careful about timing:

Each of the funding programmes listed here has a different application deadline. We have briefly summarised the three programmes listed here:

  • Erasmus internships: Two months before the start of the internship
  • DAAD short-term scholarships: Maximum 60 to minimum 32 days before the start of the internship
  • PROMOS: For stays from January to June: 01 - 30 November of the previous year, for stays from July to December: 01 - 30 April.

Caution: Entry regulations:

When applying for a grant for your internship, you must also comply with the entry regulations in force. The time you need to allow to apply for a visa can vary, so make sure you find out in good time!
It is also important to remember that internships are not necessarily subject to the same regulations as holidays.
You will also need a visa to enter the UK. In order not to jeopardise your stay abroad, you should always inform yourself in good time!
