Ukrainian Women and Families in Würzburg - Arrived?
Because of the war situation in Ukraine, millions of people have become refugees and have been warmly received by various countries. According to theCentral Register of Foreigners (AZR) Germany has taken in about 1.02 million Ukrainian refugees until November 2022. 115,000 refugees from Ukraine have arrived in Bavaria. Women with children and elderly parents make up the largest part of this group of people. They all have to start a new life in a foreign social and cultural context. Ukrainian women face several challenges: their own personal and professional development, the organisation around the care and education of their children, social and health problems of their families, or the bureaucracy of the host cities and countries shape the time of arrival.
The Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg, in cooperation with the City of Würzburg, has organised an event for Ukrainian women and their families, as well as all interested people from the city and district of Würzburg, in order to draw the attention of the city's inhabitants to a group of new arrivals from Ukraine whose number has reached 1,000 people. This is a meeting with discussions, rounds of talks, exhibitions of Ukrainian artists as well as information offers around the topic "Arriving in Würzburg".
The Office of the University Women's Representative of JMU has tried to initiate a dialogue between Germans and Ukrainians about art, which is the most expressive background for further cooperation between Ukrainian artists and local initiatives. The event is supported by various translators so that everyone can exchange in German, Ukrainian, and English.
