The cooperation of the Chair of Psychology I, Biological Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy with the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, can be traced back to an initiative launched by Professor Dr Paul Pauli. Based on two bilaterally funded symposia in Würzburg (2014) and Beijing (2016), a close collaboration developed in the field of translational neuroscience, with a particular focus on motivational learning processes. The joint work is pushed by a Sino-German mobility programme on the topic of "Addiction memory modification by virtual reality", which is funded by the Sino-German Centre for Science Promotion; a joint venture of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
