Individual Research Grants

• For researchers with a doctoral degree

• Goal: implementation of a time-limited research project
• What is funded: own position, personnel costs, material costs, etc.
• Funding period: up to 3 years; long-term projects in the humanities and social sciences 7 to 12 years

Walter Benjamin Programme

• For postdocs up to 2 years after completion of their doctorate
• All disciplines
• Application possible at any time
• Goal: deepening your professional knowledge and increasing your mobility
• What is funded: own position or scholarship (abroad)
• Funding period: up to 2 years

Emmy Noether Programme

• For postdocs up to 4 years after completing their doctorate
• All research areas
• Application possible at any time
• Goal: qualification for a university professorship
• What is funded: leadership of a junior research group (own position, personnel costs, material costs, etc.)
• Funding period: up to 6 years

Heisenberg Programme

• For researchers who meet the requirements for appointment to a professorship position

• Goal: preparation for a future leadership position
• What is funded: own position with the possibility of carrying out a research project (individual research grant) or a scholarship

Starting Grant

• For researchers up to 2 to 7 years after completion of their doctorate

• Goal: independent implementation of a time-limited research project
• Funding amount: up to €1.5 million
• Funding period: up to 5 years

Postdoctoral Fellowship

• For researchers up to 8 years after completion of their doctorate
• All disciplines
• Goal: independent implementation of a time-limited research project abroad
• What is funded: scholarship at a host organisation inside or outside the EU
• Funding period: up to 3 years
