True to its motto ‘Science for Society’, Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) is committed to advancing research in a wide range of disciplines. Research awards and prizes confirm JMU’s place among the world’s high-performing research universities.

On the University Board, Prof. Dr. Caroline Kisker is responsible for the portfolio of research and academic career development. Prof. Dr. Matthias Bode is responsible for the areas of innovation and knowledge transfer.

Excellence Strategy

For the 2026 – 2032 funding period, JMU together with the two Munich universities will submit a full proposal for a new Cluster of Excellence. In addition, a continuation proposal will be submitted for the existing Cluster of Excellence in Physics ctd.qmat.
