1. How to get a card
1.1 I am new at JMU: What do I have to do to get a chip card?
When you enrol online, you will have to upload a passport-style photograph of yourself to the WueStudy portal. We will automatically mail your chip card to the postal address you provided. You will receive your card within two weeks from the date of your enrolment (i.e. the date of receipt of our welcome email).
The last date for the automatic delivery of cards to addresses outside the Main-Franconia region is 25 March for summer intake and 24 September for winter intake. After this date, please get in touch if you want us to send your card to you in the mail.
We will not send chip cards to addresses outside Germany! However, if you can provide an address in Germany, we will be happy to send your card there.
If you were enrolled by the International Office, the International Office will contact you with information about how to collect your student ID card.
Important information! If you do not supply a photograph of yourself, we will not be able to produce a student ID card for you.
If you did not upload a photo when you enrolled, please complete the following steps: Log in to the WueStudy portal and click the ‘Student services’ tile. Go to the ‘Contact details’ section and upload your photo. If you are having problems uploading your photo to the portal, you can also email it to us as a JPG file at kartenservice@uni-wuerzburg.de . Please do not forget to indicate your student ID number in your email. Alternatively, you can contact the chip Card Office
1.2 Can I use my card straight away?
No, you can’t. You will have to validate it first, i.e. will have to go to one of our validation terminals to have the word ‘Semesterticket’ and an expiry date printed on it. You will be able to validate your card for a summer semester starting on 25 March and for a winter semester starting on 24 September. You will not be able to use your card until you have the word ‘Semesterticket’ and an expiry date printed on it.
Click here to find out where our validation terminals are located.
1.3 Does my chip card also serve as my public transport pass (Semesterticket)?
Yes, it does, provided that you have paid the full amount due for it when you enrolled (the fee for your public transport pass is included in your Studierendenwerk fee). Remember that you will have to go to one of our validation terminals to have the word ‘Semesterticket’ printed on your card. Public transport providers will only accept your chip card as a ticket if this word, an expiry date that is in the future and your photograph are printed on it.
