2. Chip card functions
2.1 What can I use my chip card for?
Your chip card serves the following functions:
Student ID card
Bearing your photo and an expiry date, your chip card serves as your student ID card.
Public transport pass (Semesterticket)
Your student ID card usually also serves as your public transport pass. Your card will only be considered to be a valid public transport ticket in the area covered by the Verkehrsunternehmens-Verbund Mainfranken GmbH (VVM) public transport association if the word ‘Semesterticket’ is printed on it. The word will be printed on automatically when you validate your card.
More information about the ‘Semesterticket’ public transport pass can be found on the pages of Studierendenwerk Würzburg www.swerk-wue.de sowie unter https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/studium/studienangelegenheiten/beitraegeundgebuehren/semesterticket/
Library borrowing card
Your library user number is stored on your card and printed on it preceded by the word ‘UB-Nummer’.
More information can be found on the web pages of the University Library at:

Electronic purse for payment at canteens, cafeterias and photocopiers
You can load money on to your card at a variety of top-up machines all across campus, using either cash or an EC card. In addition, you can top up your card with cash at many checkout counters at canteens or cafeterias operated by Studierendenwerk Würzburg. You can use your chip card to make payments at canteens and cafeterias and at most photocopiers. At many checkout counters and vending machines, you can pay by chip card only. Cash payments are usually not accepted or will be surcharged.
Always treat your chip card like cash!
