Support for ESD stakeholders

The networking of stakeholders in the field of education for sustainable development (ESD) in all areas of the university is a central component of the Sustainability strategy of the University of Würzburg (JMU). The ‘Whole Institution Approach’ ensures that all members of the university can actively participate in the sustainable development of the university, whereby the participation of students is particularly encouraged.

Participation in the sense of the welfare institution approach

JMU's efforts in the field of ESD aim to involve all members of the university in an exchange on the goals and basic principles of university education for sustainable development. Students play a key role in this. This is why their perspectives and ideas have also played a key role in the development and implementation of the ESD initiative.

Regular networking meetings

In order to promote continued exchange and collaboration, the Transformationsexperiment Teaching4Sustainability organises a networking meeting. These meetings provide a platform for all interested parties to discuss progress, challenges and new ideas in the field of ESD. In addition, meetings of various interest or status groups are organised to discuss specific topics and concerns. Students are invited to use these opportunities to contribute their concerns and suggestions.

Exchange on content and methods

A central aspect of the networking meetings is the exchange of information on the content and basic principles of science-based education for sustainable development. As a comprehensive university, JMU faces the particular challenge of integrating ESD into the teaching of a variety of disciplines. This requires interdisciplinary exchange. It enables innovative approaches and provides the opportunity to benefit from the experiences and perspectives of other disciplines.

The regular meetings not only serve the purpose of professional exchange, but also strengthen the sense of community among members and affiliates of the university who are involved in ESD. In this way, they create an awareness that sustainability is a shared task to which everyone can contribute.
