Mobility Test - English
To demonstrate English language proficiency as part of your application for specific mobility programs, you can take the Versant™ English Placement Test (VEPT) at the Language Centre at the University of Würzburg. You can attach the language certificate to your application. For further information, please visit the International Office´s website.
The VEPT is an international and standardized online placement test from Pearson for levels A1 to C2. It tests all four language skills:
- Listening comprehension
- Reading
- Oral expression
- Written expression
The VEPT is exclusively used for a rapid and global assessment of English language skills. Therefore, the VEPT is not suitable as proof of language skills for admission or as part of a degree program.

If you have already successfully completed English courses at levels B2 and/or C1 at the Language Centre and these are no more than two years old, you are exempt from taking the VEPT; however, you still must register for the language certificate. To do this, go to the lower tab "How do I register for the test?" and complete the registration.
You can view all currently available dates when registering.
The language test takes place in the media library of the Language Centre: https://wueaddress.uni-wuerzburg.de/building/9025
The VEPT can be taken by students of the University of Würzburg and the University of Music Würzburg who plan to stay abroad, as well as by the University of Würzburg employees as part of the UNIvers International" certificate.
Important note: As a student of English and American Studies, you will receive the language certificate from the Language Practice Department of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences responsible for you.
The fee for the VEPT is 30 € (table of charges for the Language Centre - legally non-binding English translation) for students of the University of Würzburg and the University of Music Würzburg, as well as for employees of the University of Würzburg.
You will receive the payment details via email after receipt of your registration. To complete your registration, we must receive the payment receipt within 48 hours. Pearson offers several ways to prepare for an upcoming test. You can find them under the following links:
In general, it is advisable to use the English language as much as possible. Practice actively listening to spoken language, e.g., with TED Talks. Read articles in English regularly to practice reading comprehension and expand your vocabulary. You don't need to be a member of The Guardian or CNN International, for example. In addition, there are many language exercises in Learning Englisch, and you will find a large selection of literature that includes English exercises at the University Würzburg Library.
All you need is a valid ID to verify your identity on the day of the test. Please also have your email login details ready.
Based on the VEPT result, you will receive a language certificate. You will receive this via email on the day of the test or the day after.
The basis for the language certificate at VEPT is the GSE1 score. When converting the GSE score into a CEFR2 level, the following assignment applies at the Center for Languages:
- B2 --> at least 67 GSE points
- C1 --> at least 76 GSE points
1 GSE = Global Scale of English
2 CEFR = Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
The VEPT can be repeated as many times as you like. However, for each VEPT exam, you need a new registration, and the test fee must be paid again.
