Recognition of external achievements

The Language Centre offers the opportunity to recognize foreign language achievements acquired at a foreign university. To have practical language achievements acquired at a foreign university recognized at the Language Centre, students should inform themselves about recognition options at the Language Centre before starting their stay abroad. This can protect against disappointment in terms of the basic recognition of courses, but also the extent of recognition (credits [ECTS points]). As a rule of thumb, the closer the course completed is in scope, content, and level (CEFR) to the offer at the Language Centre, the easier and faster the equivalence is written. Only courses for which there are equivalents in scope and content to the ones offered at the Language Centre can be recognized. Therefore, there is no "crediting" of the points acquired abroad, but it is compared to which locally offered course is to be considered equivalent and thus recognized. The international requirement "1 ECTS = 30 hours workload" is strictly adhered to.

Recognition

Before your achievements can be recognized, they must be evaluated by the respective language department of the Language Centre. To do this, please complete the entire application formand submit it together with all the necessary documents to the relevant language department.

The following documents are mandatory for an application:

  1. Completed form "Application for recognition of examination achievements", which can be found on the homepage of the Examination Office 
  2. Module descriptions, transcripts, or other documents from the institution where the competencies were acquired with appropriate proof of learning outcomes, teaching methods, content, study and examination achievements achieved, teaching material used, and course scope.
  3. Information on the grading system used for the evaluation. 

The processing time for the evaluation and the implementation of the recognition is approximately 4 weeks. The then fully completed application for recognition of examination achievements must be submitted to the Examination Office. If necessary, the corresponding achievements will be booked there.
