Language Centre

Aim of language training

The aim of language training at the Language Centre is to prepare students specifically for a study/research stay abroad or to provide them with the necessary foreign language skills for entry into a foreign or internationally active company.

For this purpose, both semester courses and intensive courses are offered during the lecture-free period. The group sizes are limited to a maximum of 25 participants, the courses are free of charge for students of the University of Würzburg. The Language Centre offers comprehensive language training from beginner to advanced levels (levels A1 to C1/C2, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Furthermore, the Language Centre is working on promoting independent language learning by integrating blended learning offers and supplementing the face-to-face courses with self-study modules and e-learning offers. The self-study center (media library), supervised by a media didactic specialist, the language partner program face2face, and the tutor-accompanied self-study programs in Arabic, Turkish, Swedish, and Russian are important components of this area.

The training objectives of all levels include:

- the ability to communicate adequately orally and in writing in general and technical language situations through balanced training in all four basic language skills: listening comprehension, oral expression, reading comprehension, and written expression;

- the teaching of intercultural skills and regional knowledge;

- the ability to cope with university-related linguistic situations, such as those expected in the context of studying at both a German university as well as a university in the country of the target language;

- the ability to use the foreign language adequately in general and technical language contexts in corresponding academic professions.
