"Competences are abilities to deal successfully with new situations and requirements."

 

Why is it so important to know your own competences and what do you do with this knowledge? The first part of the seminar will give you answers to these questions. We will introduce you to the possibilities and ways in which you can get to know and understand your own competences in a structured way. For this purpose, we will use the competence model of the JMU's academic human resources development and give you tips on how to

* be able to reflect yourself with it.

* plan your future career in science and industry.

* recognize your own strengths and use them in a targeted manner.

 

Whenever you are planning your further career path, are invited to an interview, want to network effectively or are about to make a career change, a good understanding of your competencies and thus your strengths will help you to make well-founded and sustainable decisions.

In the second part of the workshop we will look at how you can work together successfully in the long term with an understanding of your own strengths and competencies.

Successful teamwork means understanding personalities, bringing them together into a functioning community, motivating them and getting the best possible performance out of them. Effective models of team leadership help to reduce the complexity of this task and find starting points for your own leadership style.

 

We will familiarize you with the characteristics of successful teams and shed light on central theories and methods for managing a team - including typical team phases and team roles. At the same time you will find time to reflect on your own team role.

Methodologically, we will use a combination of input phases, feedback rounds and guided exercises in this seminar. There is also the possibility of an individual coaching session.

We are running a bioinformatic training course designed to equip wet-lab
biologists with everything that they need to perform their own bioinformatic
data analysis. The course is aimed at wet-lab biologists with no previous
experience whatsoever of bioinformatics. I.e. it is entry level.

  • Design your individual vision board and make space for dreams, ideas, and creativity
  • Elevator pitch: convince of your ideas in an exciting way in a short time span
  • Communicate your goals with the approach of “nonviolent communication” (by Marshall Rosenberg), a tool for healthy relationships

  • to identify skills, interests, and values through self-assessment activities and group sessions
  • to explore your resources and skills and strengthen your professional role and identity
  • to develop an action plan based on your dreams and realizable goals
  • how to convincingly present yourself and your ideas in spoken words
  • how to communicate a clear opinion and your own needs
