Mission Statement of the India Competence Centre (ICCUW) of the University of Würzburg

The India Competence Centre (ICCUW) of the University of Würzburg is an interdisciplinary hub committed to fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and academic excellence in partnership with India. As a central scientific institution, ICCUW aims to:

  • Expand Interdisciplinary Cooperation: Strengthen and develop comprehensive structures to support collaborations with Indian institutions and stakeholders.
  • Unify Research and Teaching Activities: Consolidate a broad spectrum of India-related research interests and educational initiatives across faculties.
  • Enhance Visibility: Promote the India-related expertise of the University of Würzburg both internally and externally.

Recognizing India’s growing geopolitical, economic, and scientific significance, the ICCUW provides a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue focusing on scientific collaboration, transnational mobility, and cross-cultural communication. It acknowledges the complexities of bilateral cooperation and strives to leverage opportunities while addressing challenges through informed and responsible academic partnerships.

Core Objectives:

  • Showcasing India Expertise: Enhance the visibility of the university’s India-related activities and collaborations.
  • Documenting Activities: Collect and document India-focused initiatives, projects, and partnerships at the university.
  • Advisory Support: Offer guidance to university members and units planning exchanges or partnerships with India.
  • Event Organization: Facilitate or co-organize India-themed events and activities for the university community.
  • Institutional Support: Assist university leadership and service units, such as the Service Center International Transfer, Welcome Center, and Alumni Office, in fostering relationships with Indian partners.
  • Engaging Stakeholders: Serve as a point of contact for external stakeholders, including policymakers, diplomats, academics, industry representatives, and educational institutions.
  • Funding Applications: Provide support for developing and submitting India-related funding proposals.

The ICCUW builds on existing collaborative projects and strong networks, including partnerships with BMBF, DAAD, DFG, and the Max Weber Foundation, to advance the University of Würzburg's India competence. By facilitating responsible and forward-looking cooperation, ICCUW contributes to the global engagement and academic mission of the university.
