History of the Julius-Maximilians-Universität of Würzburg (2022)
As early as 1402, a university was founded in Würzburg, but it only lasted for a few years. The foundation of today's university took place almost two centuries later, in 1582. A lot happened in the last 400 years. The university was founded by the catholic prince-bishop Julius Echter, during the Reformation – a movement in which secular authority was heavily challenged. But the universities main concerns of the university changed with it expansion and in an interplay with outer (political) influences. This video aims to show how the history of the university from its foundation over the times of national socialism until today shaped the students, professors, as well as the overall campus design.
