Guest Lectures (MagEIA meets Biomedicine)

Vortragende: Prof. Dr. Paola Dardano, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevgül Cilingir Cesur, Dr. Neelam Dabas Sen

In the SCIAS guest lectures, the visiting professors and their hosts of the university introduce themselves and their research areas in the lecture hall of the Welz house to fellow guests, hosts and an interested audience of the university and the city in short 20-minute keynote lectures. Afterwards, all the participants have the opportunity to discuss and learn more about the respective projects and research areas to promote international and interdisciplinary exchange, dialogue and cooperation.

Speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Paola Dardano (Università per Stranieri di Siena, Italy): The language of the Hittite magical texts.
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevgül Cilingir Cesur (Ege University, Turkey): Seeing the Unseen: The Hittite Ritual Tradition and Its Side Characters.
  • Dr. Neelam Dabas Sen (Jawaharlal Nehru University, India): Translation matters: Mechanisms of translational control in living cells.

Prof. Paola Dardano is Professor at the Università per Stranieri di Siena. She is staying for 3 months at the Welz-Haus as a Senior Fellow of the DFG Center for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences 42 MagEIA - Magic between Entanglement, Interaction, and Analogy (DFG Kolleg-Forschungsgruppe 42). Prof. Dardano is a guest of Professor Daniel Schwemer, spokesperson of MagEIA. During her stay Prof. Dardano studies the terminology and phraseology of Hittite magical texts.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevgül Çilingir Cesur is a full-time lecturer at Ege University, İzmir. She is staying at the Welz-Haus for 4 months as a Senior Fellow of the DFG Center for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences 42 MagEIA - Magic between Entanglement, Interaction, and Analogy (DFG Kolleg-Forschungsgruppe 42), guest of Prof. Dr. Daniel Schwemer, the spokesperson of MagEIA. She is currently investigating the role of subsidiary actors in Hittite magical rituals through a comprehensive analysis of the texts, in order to portray the diversity of individuals in Hittite magical practices.

Dr. Neelam Dabas Sen is a Ramalingaswami fellow at the School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. She is staying at the Welz house for three months, as a guest of Prof. Dr. Joachim Morschhauser from the Institute of Molecular Infection Biology at JMU. She is currently conducting research on mechanisms of regulation of gene expression in eukaryotic cells, specifically developing and employing tools of next generation sequencing for understanding translational control at genome-wide level in cells.
