Workflow of reprographic services
Duration: 2016-2017
Customer orientation and productivity are the most important components of reprographic services. Through reprographic services core areas of an institution can be linked, as for example customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), and finance. The complete reprographic services process was analyzed and specified. A system was developed to manage this workflow in an automated manner. The main components of this workflow are ordering, order control, cataloging, costing, finance, goods control, production, quality control, delivery, long-term archiving, and statistics.
ESA - electronic reserve collection
Duration: 2015
To support courses at the University of Würzburg, essays or small parts of works are made available in electronic form. The complete digitalization process was analyzed, specified, and a system was developed to control the workflow in an automated way. The main components are ordering, order control, goods control, production, quality control, delivery, and statistics.
Principles and evolution of actin-nucleator complexes
Duration: 2010-2013
Actin is a structural protein found in all eukaryotic cells (i.e. cells with a nucleus). The actin forms dynamic filaments to stabilize the external cell shape and intracellular transports. Actin nucleation allows the cell to rapidly adapt its shape and rigidity to environmental changes. Within the framework of the project, a system was developed to support the analysis of actin nucleation from an evolutionary perspective.
Development of a business management system for the optimization of operational processes
Since 2010
Analysis of the current state and the development of a business management system to optimize operations. The main tasks include analysis, consulting, design of software architectures, development and implementation of the systems as well as training and coaching of the employees.
PISA - reading skills development
Duration: 2008
Studies have shown that children and adolescents of non-German origin are highly overrepresented in the group of weak German readers. However, the differences between good and weak readers identified in the analyses have largely been examined without taking into account the students' migration or language background. The profiles of weak readers at secondary schools in different German states have been analyzed in more depth and specified taking into account their language background. These results were used to predict what would be the results of the students in the additionally surveyed reading test PISA 2009. A system was developed to measure phonological awareness, working memory, listening comprehension, and language structural competencies.
GEPAT - genome expression pathway analysis tool
Duration: 2007-2010
Microarray gene expression data allow to analyze how living cells work. They can be used to quantitatively measure the transcriptional activity of a cell and thus the activity of specific genes at any specified time. For example, the activity of genes in a healthy tissue can be compared to a diseased tissue to potentially determine the causes of disease. The evaluation of huge amounts of data when using microarrays is a major challenge. Within the framework of the project, an integrated system was developed to support the analysis and visualization of microarray gene expression data from genomic, proteomic and metabolic points of view.
SUMMA - summary street
Duration: 2005-2011
A large part of school knowledge is imparted through texts, i.e. students learn mainly by reading texts. It has long been known that summarizing texts improves text comprehension and thus increases the effectiveness of learning. An intelligent tutorial system has been developed to assist students to write summaries. The system uses Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), which is a computer-based model for evaluating the semantic similarity of words and texts. LSA is a statistical method for analyzing the co-occurrences of words in large text corpora. It generates a high-dimensional vector space in which words, sentences, and paragraphs are represented as vectors. For example, a word vector can be taken as a representation of the meaning of the word, or at least its meaning based on the use of the word in the context of other words. German-language semantic vector spaces for different subject areas were generated and later integrated into tutorial systems. In addition, a platform for computer-assisted generation of feedback for course-related performance assessments was developed, which is able to quickly and easily detect content-related plagiarism and automatically evaluate open answers. Furthermore, methods for the classification of text content were developed.
PeLoTe - building presence through localization for hybrid telematic systems
Duration: 2003-2004
A system was developed that supports rescue forces through the cooperation of mobile robots in search and rescue activities in emergency and disaster operations. Hence, the risk situations for rescue teams are reduced and victims are found more quickly. The robots can operate both autonomously and remotely. The technology concepts include:
- Telematics: remote control, remote monitoring, remote diagnostics and data fusion.
- Localization technology: positioning and navigation for humans and robots.
- Cooperative planning: cooperation and coordination of humans and robots in a team.
Other areas of application include remote maintenance of industrial robots, robots in space travel, homework robots, remote experiments in tele-education.
LearNet - learning and experimenting on real technical equipment in the network
Duration: 2003
Seven university institutes perform an innovative laboratory experiment from the fields of control engineering, automation engineering and mechatronics. The experiments are offered to the partner universities via the Internet. Path planning experiments for mobile robots were developed and implemented as part of the project.
Expert system - diagnosis of communication connections and systems
Duration: 2002-2003
Development of an expert system for diagnosing telecom connections and solving customer problems on telecom equipment. This system works through a call center staff and technicians. In addition, the system also enables customers to solve their problems independently.
Expert system - printing press diagnostics
Duration: 2001-2002
Setting up a diagnostic system to support service staff in diagnosing faults in the presses. This system makes it possible to identify and eliminate possible sources of error on the basis of the data generated by the presses. The diagnosis can be carried out efficiently either on a central server (web-based) or on the service employee's computer (local).
Network management - configuration, security, performance and fault management
Duration: 1999-2001
Development of a network management system to make a company's IP network more secure, reliable, and economical. The realization of this goal was achieved by identifying weaknesses and bottlenecks, improving/refining the network management process, and developing and leveraging existing network management software.
Stochastic data user model and simulation of GRPS cells.
Duration: 1999-2000
Development and investigation of a stochastic data user model to simulate General Packet Radio Service (GRPS) cells. The GRPS is a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) based technology that enhances the access capabilities of the Internet over a wireless link. As part of the project, a simulation system was conceptualized and implemented to determine the QoS (Quality of Service) of a GPRS user for different traffic profiles and cell configurations.
